This symposium will explore and discuss the mechanisms underlying sleep-related neuronal and glial activity and the role of sleep for synaptic plasticity and learning. This single day event addresses the latest in vivo methods for studying sleep and wake with a special focus on imaging in living mice, in vivo manipulation of neuronal activity and recordings of brain oscillations and neuronal ensemble activity.

Sleep is highly conserved across species, despite being a state of heightened vulnerability. This suggests that sleep has crucial functions for the survival and adaption of individuals. Indeed, sleep has been shown to be important for example for metabolism, immune function and cognitive function. This symposium will gather international experts to explore and discuss "The sleeping brain" : mechanisms underlying sleep-related neuronal and glial activity and the role of sleep for cognitive functions such as learning.

« The Sleeping Brain » will be the 10th symposium of the annual Institut du Fer-à-Moulin colloquium series, co-organized this year with the Neuroscience Paris Seine-IBPS Laboratory. These one-day event are freely open to the scientific community and gather leading french scientists in Paris around prestigious international speakers. They provide a unique opportunity for young colleagues to meet experts in the field and present posters in a friendly environment.

We look forward to welcoming you at the IFM/NPS Colloquium 2019 !

The organizers : Gabrielle Girardeau (IFM, Paris),Véronique Fabre, (NPS/IBPS, Paris), Christelle Peyron (CRNL, Lyon)
