Mirror tank


  • Start of experiments : Afternoon
  • Duration:10mn per fish
  • Habituation : 1 night in a tank with white walls
  • Temperature of water : 28°C
  • Temperature of room : 22°C
  • Lighting : Infrared light below tank


  • Age of fish : from 3 months onwards
  • Strain : all
  • Size of group : 15 fish per genotype
  • Drug exposure : possible, for various times and concentrations
  • Drug administration by injection : possible


We can measure the time spent by the fish attacking it’s own image in the mirror – bites, tail thrashing and pushing against the mirror. These behaviors are manually recorded from high-resolution films
