Doctoral Schools

The doctoral schools put together several research teams which take care of the training to research for the PhD students. They offer to the future doctor a high-level scientific frame as well as a preparation for the professional integration.

The doctoral schools are accredited by the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, after evaluation. The accreditation of every doctoral school specifies its fields of scientific skill. The scientific quality of laboratories associated to each of the doctoral schools, the procedure of recruitment of the PhD students, the financing strategy of the thesis, the potential of the frame and the training policy, the partnerships with the socioeconomic world and the incentive to the mobility and to european and international opening are so many determining criteria for the accreditation of the doctoral schools.

The current doctoral area in association with the Paris-Saclay Institute of Neuroscience, involves these following Ecoles Doctorales specialized in Biology and Cognitive Sciences :

  • Signalling and Integrative Networks in Biology (BioSigne ED 419, Michael Schumacher), includes research teams which study the mechanisms of signaling and communication in Biology, and more specifically in Neurosciences, in Endocrinology, in Neuroendocrinology, in Reproduction and in Immuninology.

  • Structure and Dynamics of Living Systems (SDSV ED 577, Pierre Capy). This ED of the Paris-Saclay University is attached to three university establishments : Université Paris-Sud University, Evry-Val-d’Essonne University, and Versailles Saint-Quentin University. The Paris Sciences & Lettres University is co-accredited.
SDSV is a doctoral school of biology approaching the research on its fundamental and applied aspects at the same time. It develops an integrative vision of the fundamental questions in biology such as the relation genotype-phenotype or the integration of the épigenetic phenomena in the dynamics of living organisms, at the cellular scale, or at the developmental or the evolutionary scale.

  • Brain-Cognition-Behaviour (ED3C, ED 158, Alain Trembleau), accredited to the Pierre & Marie Curie University (UPMC Paris 6), to the Paris-Descartes (Paris 5) University, to the ENS and the EHESS, et iincludes research teams in neurosciences of the UPMC, Paris-Descartes, Paris-Diderot, Paris-Sud, of the ENS, of the EHESS, of the Collège de France, of the ESPCI, of the Pasteur Institute, of the CEA and of the Curie Institute.

  • The FIRE (FRONTIÈRES DE L’INNOVATION EN RECHERCHE ET EDUCATION) Doctoral School (ED474 ex Frontières du Vivant) is an interdisciplinary program that promotes ambitious research projects involving interactions between a wide range of academic disciplines in the pursuit of understanding living systems, education, and discovery. The disciplines covered by the doctoral school are broad and include natural sciences, engineering and technology, medical and health sciences, and social sciences. FIRE is acredited by Paris Descartes, Paris Diderot and Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) Universities.
